This is a collection of preowned railroad/ Norfolk Southern books obtfrom an estate sale. The System Referece Manual dated 3/11/96 is in good condition considering its age. The small binder that holds safety and conduct rules is torn but all pages are intact. The Norfolk Southern rules for equipment operation is in good condition and is dated 1998.

Operations Training Updated 7/14/04 Operations Training Transportation Courses: Engineering Courses: Welding Courses: Mechanical Courses: Operations Training for Supervisors: CONDUCTOR TRAINING Course The Conductor Training program is designed to develop a new hire freight train employee into a conductor in less than six months. The course includes eight days of basic safety and operating training at McDonough, four weeks of on-the-job training back at the employees division, and eight days of advanced conductor training which includes: rules training, communication skills, hazmat and environmental awareness, crew call and payroll, reports and reporting, and quality training. The program is supported with three months of on-the-job training at the employees assigned home territory Who Should Attend New hire freight train employees. Length Sixteen days of classroom training and sixteen weeks of on-the-job training. Location Classroom segments are held at McDonough and on-the-job training is held on the home operating division. LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEER TRAINING Course This course prepares trainees for promotion to Locomotive Engineer by providing the fundamentals of locomotive and train operations.
Classroom and lab activities are combined with daily hands-on operation of Type II locomotive simulators. Upon successful completion of the Training Center coursework, training continues on the participants home division under the guidance of the local division personnel. Promotion to locomotive engineer occurs when a trainee has been qualified over his division or district. The time needed to qualify normally ranges from six to eight months depending on the territory. Who Should Attend Locomotive engineer trainees. Length 4 weeks plus division qualifying time. DISPATCHER TRAINING Course This course teaches a broad range of railroad operations topics that will assist the trainee in understanding the job of a dispatcher. The class uses a mix of videotape, lecture, simulations and computer-based training modules to accomplish training. Who Should Attend New hire dispatcher trainees and employees appointed as dispatcher trainees. Length The training consists of three classroom segments at McDonough totaling six weeks.
Structured on-the-job segments follow the classroom segments. Overall training time varies depending on division requirements. Location Classroom segments are held at McDonough, GA and on-the-job training is held on the division where the trainee is assigned.
